Change of Plans for Monday Night 🎳

We have a slight change to our programme for this coming Monday evening. As mentioned to Scouts earlier this week, the Swadlincote Ski Centre is unfortunately no longer open on Monday nights. This means our planned tobogganing session can’t go ahead.

But don’t worry we’ve lined up an exciting alternative! Instead, we’ll be heading to Uttoxeter Cinebowl for a fun evening of 10-pin bowling.

  • 🕖 Time: 7:45pm – 8:45pm
  • 📍 Location: Uttoxeter Cinebowl
  • 🎟️ Details: We’ve booked 4 lanes for one hour. Please drop Scouts off between 7:30–7:40pm and collect them promptly at 8:45pm.
  • 💷 Cost: £5 per Scout, payable in cash on the night to leaders or via bank transfer.

We’re looking forward to a great evening together and can’t wait to see everyone there!

Hilton Scouts to Grow a “Tree of Hope” from the Legendary Sycamore Gap Tree

The 161st Derby (Hilton) Scout Group is honoured to have been chosen by the National Trust to receive one of just 49 saplings grown from the iconic Sycamore Gap Tree, as part of its Trees of Hope initiative.

The Sycamore Gap Tree, which once stood proudly beside Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland, captured hearts across the nation before it was tragically felled in 2023. From that loss came new life. The National Trust collected 49 seeds from the original tree, nurturing them into saplings to be shared with communities across the UK as living symbols of hope, renewal, and connection with nature.

Our tree will be planted over then next week or so and we will be holding a dedication ceremony at 1pm on Saturday 29th November next to the Hilton Scout Hut.
It would be great to have lots of children and volunteers join us, in their Uniform, to mark the occasion and celebrate the ongoing “Hope”. Please gather at the Hut from 1245pm.
Be aware that the Scout Hut Car Park will be closed for setting up the Christmas Market, but the Village Hall Car Park will remain open.

There will be many photographs and possible some from local news/press. Attendance at the event will constitute permission for this.

Crossbow Shooting next week

All as per the program we will be taking part in an evening of crossbow shooting next Monday at Drum Hill.

The scouts will need to arrive at the slightly earlier time of 6:45pm and be collected at 9:00pm from the main drum hill car park.

Each scout will need a signed permission to shoot form to enable them to shoot, without this they will not be able to shoot. (this is a legal requirement). The forms are attached to this blog, please download the parent or adult permission to shoot pdf complete sign and email a copy back to Hilton.scouts@gmail.com or send your scout with printed signed copy on Monday night.

Due to numbers we may have to split the group in two, with one group shooting and one completing wide games then swapping around, so we ask that the scouts wear suitable clothing and footwear and bring a torch and drink with them as well.

Any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch, we look forward so seeing you at drum hill on Monday night.
